PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 2-hydroxycycloalkanecarboxylic acid ester.

SOLUTION: The method for producing a 2-hydroxycycloalkanecarboxylic acid ester comprises a step to react a 2-oxocycloalkanecarboxylic acid ester with a transformant or its killed cell artificially imparted with a potency to asymmetrically reduce the 2-oxocycloalkanecarboxylic acid ester and form the 2-hydroxycycloalkanecarboxylic acid ester and a potency to regenerate a coenzyme on which the enzyme having the potency is dependent, and a step to collect the produced 2-hydroxycycloalkanecarboxylic acid ester.
