PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an anode/cathode separation type photocatalyst wherein an oxidative reaction region and a reductive reaction region are separated in a vapor phase photocatalytic reaction system. SOLUTION: This anode/cathode separation type photocatalyst is constituted by mutually providing one of anodes comprising a photocatalyst and cathodes on one surface in a stripe or island state at a predetermined interval, and covering the joined parts of the photocatalysts and the cathodes and the vicinities thereof with an inorganic electrolyte. Further, the anode/cathode separation type photocatalyst is constituted so that the photocatalysts and the cathodes are allowed to be spaced apart from each other to form spaces to a part of a laminate, wherein the photocatalysts and the cathodes are bond, and the spaces have opening parts to the outside and the photocatalysts and the cathodes facing to the spaces are coated with the above inorganic electrolyte. Furthermore, the anode/cathode separation type photocatalyst is constituted so that the cathodes and the porous photocatalysts having the inorganic electrolyte therein or on the surfaces thereof are stacked and a layer containing a reversibly changing and fading coloring matter and an electrolyte is provided on the cathodes and the photocatalysts, and the coloring matter-containing layer is electrochemically joined with the electrolyte.
