PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting method for a chemical plant having a reaction section and a refining section, and an excellent characteristic capable of stably and quickly performing. SOLUTION: The plant is started with a fluid without containing a reaction component at the reaction section of a supply raw material component, and having no effect on a product component in the construction of a process. After coming into a stably circulated state, the raw material is supplied to the reaction section. Concretely, the reaction section is the section for synthesizing methyl tertiary butyl ether by using a 4C mixture containing isobutylene that is the reaction component and methanol. The refining section comprises a rectifier group for separating into methyl tertiary butyl ether provided at the reaction section and a spent 4C (the 4C mixture from which 96-99.9% of the isobutylene in the raw material is removed).
