<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image carrier dielectric layer having many independent floating electrodes from being friction charged to be an opposite polarity to that of a developer through contact with the developer. <P>SOLUTION: In the imaging apparatus 1 which is equipped with the dielectric layer 2c having many independent floating electrodes of the image carrier 2 and uses a toner to be charged to a minus polarity, a work functionϕof the toner is set to be not larger than a work functionϕof the dielectric layer 2c. Even when the toner comes in contact with a surface of the dielectric layer 2c many times to bring about the friction therebetween many times, the dielectric layer 2c is charged to be a more minus polarity than that of the toner because the work functionsϕof the toner and the dielectric layer 2c are set as above. Therefore, even if the dielectric layer 2c is friction charged through friction with the toner, the dielectric layer 2c is prevented from being charged to be the reverse polarity to that of the toner. The toner is prevented from adhering to a non image part of the surface of the dielectric layer 2c, so that high-quality images without any fog can be obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
