PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus in which an observation image of a suitable brightness is obtained without depending upon a type of an endoscope containing a solid state imaging element. SOLUTION: This endoscope apparatus comprises the endoscope having the solid stage imaging element for allowing an electron multiplication factor to be changed by supplying a plurality of pulse-like sensitivity control pulses to allow the sensitivity to be variably set, a signal processing unit for processing an output signal from the element, a light source unit for irradiating an object with a white light and a special light of a specific wavelength range, a means for switching an observation by a normal mode by using the white light and an observation by a special light mode by using the special light of the specific wavelength range, and a sensitivity control means for controlling the multiplication factor of the element by supplying the sensitivity control pulse to the element by variably setting the control pulse.
