<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas treatment method in which lower alcohols such as methanol can efficiently and stably be removed in an adsorption/desorption type solvent recovery apparatus using activated carbon. <P>SOLUTION: The remaining water of the activated carbon after desorption of steam assists and promotes the absorption and adsorption of the methanol. An adequate equilibrium moisture content of the activated carbon is related to wettability of an activated carbon material by the remaining water. The activated carbon material having adequate equilibrium moisture is used and, particularly, the wettability of the activated carbon material which turns to be inhibiting factors of the adsorption of components other than methanol is suppressed.
