PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for manufacturing a press forming blank which is made by superposing a reinforcing plate on a base plate material and joining them integrally, with stable joining quality, superior productivity, high press formability and excellent handling ease. SOLUTION: After the reinforcing plate 14 is superposed on the base plate 12, a pin 26 which is provided at the tip end of a rotary tool 24 is obliquely inserted into a corner part formed by these plates while the pin is rotated integrally with the rotary tool 24. The pin is then moved along the corner part, with the base plate 12 and the reinforcing plate 14 joined by friction stir welding. As a result, the weld zone the surface of which is inclined sideways toward the base plate is formed in the manner extending along the corner part, thereby integrating the base plate and the reinforcing plate.
