PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure good printing on a sheet regardless of the thickness of the sheet. SOLUTION: In the printer for printing on a sheet with a thermal head 28, a head bracket 32 for holding the thermal head 28 is fixed to fixing members 20 and 31 by means of protrusions 40, 41 and elongated holes 44, 45 such that the thermal head 28 can approach a platen 13 and recede therefrom through linear motion and the thermal head 28 is urged to abut against the platen 13 through a head press mechanism 29.
