<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily provide a coating composition for an ink jet recording body which can be applied to an ink receiving layer of the body suitable for high-speed printing and which is excellent in the gloss, transparency and ink absorbing properties of the receiving layer, a high resolution of an ink image, etc., and the coating composition. <P>SOLUTION: The coating composition for the ink jet recording body contains as effective components a water dispersion (A1) of cationic crosslinked polymer particulates of an average particle diameter of 10-200 nm which is prepared by emulsifying and polymerizing an unsaturated monomer in a water solution of a cationic polymer containing a tertiary amino group or a quaternary ammonium group, and a water dispersion (A2) of cationic crosslinked polymer particulates of an average particle diameter of 20-300 nm which is prepared by mixing a compound (B) having coherence in the water dispersion (A1) and by making it coherent.
