PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for measuring and deciding grades and classes of strawberries for automatic classification of the strawberries. SOLUTION: The system is provided with solid-state image sensors 10 and 11 for photographing the strawberries 1 and a signal processing processor 16 for receiving the image signals from the sensors 10 and 11, in which the processor 16 has a grade deciding function of deciding the grades by measuring the photographed longitudinal and transverse sizes of the images of the strawberries 1 or the areas of the images of the strawberries 1 and a class deciding function of measuring the degrees of ruggedness relating to the contour lines of both sides of the photographed images of the strawberries 1, measuring the degree of cusps of the front end segments of the strawberries 1 relating to these segments, measuring the number of dyestuffs of a white system indicating immature segments in about upper half portions (calyx side) of the strawberries as a target, measuring the number of dyestuffs of the green and grown systems indicating the trouble of the entire part of the strawberries 1 as a target and deciding the classes overall from these four elements. Further, the system has a load cell 12 for weight measurement and an accuracy sensor 13 which are used for class decision. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
