PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an optical fiber with a ferrule capable of inhibiting thermal damage of the optical fiber in a simple configuration.SOLUTION: An optical fiber 31 includes a bare fiber 41 and a coat 42 for covering the outer periphery of the bare fiber 41. A part of the coat 42 is removed from an end of the optical fiber to form a coat-removed part 45 where the bare fiber 41 is exposed, and a strand part 46, where the outer periphery of the bare fiber 41 is covered by the coat 42. Under normal temperature, a ferrule 32 includes a through-hole 51A that has an inside diameter smaller than the outside diameter of the bare fiber 41 exposed at the coat-removed part 45. The ferrule is heated to enlarge the inside diameter of the through-hole 51A to a diameter equal to or more than the outside diameter of the bare fiber 41. Subsequently, the coat-removed part 45 is inserted into the through-hole 51A of the ferrule 32, the ferrule 32 is cooled to reduce the inside diameter of the through-hole 51A, and the surface of the bare fiber 41 in the through-hole 51A is bought into contact with the inner peripheral surface of the through-hole 51A to fix the coat-removed part 45 to the inside of the through-hole 51A of the ferrule 32.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
