PURPOSE: A method for changing a hopping pattern of a mobile communication system is provided to change a traffic hopping pattern every hopping pattern update period, thereby expanding the life span of an equipment, and improve the security. CONSTITUTION: An MST(Mobile Subscriber Terminal) receives control packets from an RAU(Radio Access Unit)(502). The MST stores a TOD(Time Of Day) and a traffic hopping pattern update period among the control packets in an internal memory(504). The MST calculates the rest of time related to the traffic hopping pattern update period, and stores the calculated time in the internal memory(506). If the TOD at the current point passes the traffic hopping pattern period, the MST calculates a hopping pattern by using the TOD at the current point(508). If the TOD at the current point does not pass the traffic hopping pattern update period, the MST inspects the TOD until the TOD at the current point passes the traffic hopping pattern update period(510). The MST stops generation of the calculated hopping pattern, and records a new hopping pattern(512). The MST starts hopping to the RAU with the new hopping pattern(514).
