1. A method for determining whether coagulase-positive staphylococci are in a sample, comprising:
inoculating a culture medium with the sample; incubating the inoculated culture medium under conditions suitable for growth of the coagulase-positive staphylococci; and detecting whether the coagulase-positive staphylococci are present in or on the culture medium in order to determine whether the coagulase-positive staphylococci were present in the sample, wherein the culture medium comprises: peptones; a sugar capable of being degraded by a metabolic activity of the coagulase-positive staphylococci; a pH indicator for detecting pH variation of the culture medium; and a compound capable of inhibiting or delaying germination of Bacillus spores that are capable of interfering with the culture and detection of the coagulase-positive staphylococci, the compound being selected from the group consisting of D-alanine, diphenylamine, alcohols of formula CnH2n+2OH where n ranges from 6 to 12, inhibitors of enzymes of trypsin type, and mixtures thereof.
