PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for image processing which can perform more precise image correction. SOLUTION: A body/area recognition part 1 recognizes objects in an inputted image and a main/sub object determination part 2 determines a main object and a sub object among the recognized objects. According to the relation between the determined main object and sub object, a correcting method determination part 3 determines a correcting method for correcting a target object by using feature quantity of the object. A correction quantity calculation part 4 determines a correction quantity for the correction and a correction execution part 5 actually performs determined correction processing for the respective objects or the whole image. Consequently, different optimum corrections can be made for an image of a 'person' according to the scene, e.g. whether the background is the sea or mountains and the sky. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
