PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To normally reproduce data at a reproducing side even when multichannel data are selectively transmitted in either a compressed or a noncompressed manner, and down mixing at the reproducing side is selectively permitted or inhibited.

SOLUTION: ATSI (Audio Title Set Information) includes a first identifier indicating whether multichannel data in an audio packet are compressed and a second identifier indicating whether to permit down mixing of the multichannel data to stereophonic two channels or to inhibit it.
