<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a master optical disk having a plurality of pits having the same sectional shape and a groove and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The master optical disk includes a photoresist layer on a substrate. The substrate can reflect an exposure beam. In the photoresist layer, at least a part of reflected light of the exposure beam reflected from the substrate interferes with the exposure beam so as to form a standing wave.
