<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-output magnetic head having an optimum magneto- resistive element when used especially as CPP-GMR. <P>SOLUTION: The magneto-resistive element comprises a fixed layer 606 containing half-metal, a free layer 608 formed on one principal-plane side of the fixed layer 606, and an intermediate layer 607 formed between the fixed layer 606 and the free layer 608. Further, the element comprises an anti- ferromagnetic layer 603 formed on other principal-plane side of the fixed layer 606, a soft-magnetic layer 604 formed between the fixed layer 606 and the anti- ferromagnetic layer 603, a noble-metal layer 605 formed between the fixed layer 606 and the soft-magnetic layer 604.
