PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp which causes no breakage of the valve end glass. SOLUTION: The bridge-joined fluorescent lamp 8, in which both the ends of a valve 2 the inner side thereof are coated with a fluorescent substance 1 are each sealed with a flare end glass 5, comprises an electrode coil 3 is suspended between lead wires 4a, 4b extending in the lamp 8, argon gas and mercury drops are enclosed, and a polyethylene terephthalate lamp base 7 is adhered. A shape retaining material 6 with a thickness of about 1 mm composed of oxide-complex of alumina and silica as the inorganic heat-resistant materials is coated on the entire outer surface of lamp base side surface of the flare end glass 5, and dried for fixing.
