PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a color breakup caused when a quick eyeball movement is made when a moving picture or an image is observed and to drive a field sequential color type liquid crystal display device with a low power consumption. SOLUTION: The total power consumption is suppressed low by displaying images normally by a field sequential color system by RGB driving, RGBW driving, etc., and switching the display to monochromatic display for an image of characters.
