PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for measuring a prepit waveform, which can precisely measure the prepit waveform required for calculating an AR (aperture ratio) value for a narrow region like an embossed region of an optical recording medium having a prepit. SOLUTION: A synchronized signal component corresponding to the synchronized prepit is detected from a push-pull signal. Each time when the synchronized signal component is detected, a measurement object signal component whose center is the point of time delayed from the detection point of time thereof by the time interval between the synchronized prepit and an information prepit is extracted from the push-pull signal. The extraction of the measurement object signal component from the push-pull signal by the extraction means is prohibited over the period of time at least including the time period when the position irradiated with the laser beam in a recording region jumps across a track and a subsequent first prescribed time period.
