<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a phase difference plate (particularly, a λ/4 plate having a phase difference of λ/4 in a wide wavelength area) superior in visual field characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: In a manufacturing method of the phase difference plate characterized to be the phase difference plate, a water content rate of a long cellulose acetate film is adjusted so as to be 2.0 mass% or more and less than 20.0 mass%. A retardation value (Re450) measured at a wavelength of 450 nm is 60 or 135 nm, and a retardation value (Re590) measured at a wavelength of 590 nm is 100 or 170 nm.
