PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a reproduction rate while reducing the current consumption in an optical disk drive. SOLUTION: When the operation is resumed from the standby state, the seek operation of an optical pickup 12 made in the manner of immediately stopping the operation of a spindle motor 11 by a controller 30 is not practiced, but the rotational driving of the optical disk 10 by the spindle motor 11 is allowed for only a specified time in the operational time allowed from a host device, and after that, the operation of the spindle motor 11 is stopped and the seek operation of the optical pickup 12 is performed. The speed of revolution of the optical disk 10 is rapidly accelerated up to the objective speed by delaying the seek operation for the specified time. When the speed of revolution of the optical disk 10 reaches the objective speed, the optical disk 10 stopps the delay of the seek operation, and when the read command is issued, shifts to the seek operation of the optical pickup 12.
