PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a GPS receiver, capable of not only periodically acquiring range data without degrading performances, such as positioning sensitivity and positioning speed, but also saving electric power consumption. SOLUTION: To IF data from a frequency converting part 4, a synchronization holding part 6 captures synchronization of a carrier frequency and the phase synchronization a C/A code, holds the captured state, and acquires necessary information, such as the range data. In the case of the acquisition of the range data, a switch 23 is turned off to halt the power supply for the synchronization holding part 6. Then a control part 7 performs positioning calculation through the use of the acquired range data, etc., and obtains and outputs the positioning data indicating the present location. Then the switch 23 is turned on, to make the synchronization holding part 6 operate again. The control part 7 performs control to execute intermittent operation so as to repeat the operation and halting of the synchronization holding part 6. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
