<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for reducing the number of video frames capable of reducing deterioration such as jerkiness and a double image prone to be caused in an edge part with a large motion in reducing the number of video frames. <P>SOLUTION: A deframing section 1 of the apparatus for reducing the number of video frames receiving the number of frames of an input video signal IM outputs a deframing video signal LF on the basis of information indicating the target number of frames. A motion vector calculation section 2 calculates and outputs a motion vector amount MV on the basis of the LF. A motion amount discrimination section 3 outputs a result of discriminating the magnitude of the MV as a control signal SC. A small number of frames video image generating section 4 is provided with a filter that calculates a video image feature among by each macro block from the LF, outputs the result of discrimination as a control signal, and outputs a result of applying filtering processing to the LF depending on the control signal SC, and outputs either of the LF and the filter output as a video output LM with the small number of frames according to the control signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
