PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital image forming device configured to have excellent operability and minimize a time required for automatically detecting an original size to the utmost. SOLUTION: The digital image forming device configured such that a scanner unit scans an original placed on a platen, an image sensor receives a light reflected in the original, and write processing is applied to an image storage medium on the basis of image data after analog/digital conversion, is characterized in that an exposure lamp is lighted by using as a trigger a detection signal of a first detection means for detecting a midway of a closing operation of a platen cover placed in an opening/closing enabled way, move the scanner unit, the image sensor reads lights by a plurality of lines of the original reflected in the original to detect the original size in the main scanning direction and the original size in the subscanning direction through an output of a photosensor.
