PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently apply an initial DC magnetic field to a slave medium or apply a transfer magnetic field to the slave medium and a master substrate, both closely stacked. SOLUTION: A slave medium 2 is supported on a bed 5, and a magnetic field generator 50 is disposed to face the upper surface of the slave medium 2. The initial DC magnetic field Hin generated by the magnetic field generator 50 is applied to the slave medium 2 to initially magnetize it with its surface kept close to the magnet. Then the slave medium 2 and the master substrates 3, 4 are put in a holder 10 which holds them close, and a transfer magnetic field Hdu generated by a magnetic field generator 11 is applied to the slave medium 2 and the master substrates 3, 4 through the holder 10.
