PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium more improved in recording density than before while maintaining other various characteristics, and provide an efficient manufacturing method of the above recording medium and nanoparticles suitable for them. SOLUTION: Those nanoparticles are used in a magnetic recording medium whose surface has adhering organic chemicals capable of forming carbon, and has an average particle diameter of 7 nm or less with a particle distribution (distribution width (σ)/particle diameter (D)) of 0.1 or less. The magnetic recording medium has a recording layer which contains the above nanoparticles. This manufacturing method of a magnetic recording medium is characterized in that in includes a step to coat a base plate with a dispersion liquid of the above nanoparticles in a magnetic field.
