PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent failure of a shaft seal ring of a turbine. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a control system for an exhaust brake operating by impeding exhaust flow from a turbocharged combustion engine, when an engine throttle is closed. The control system includes means for delaying application of the exhaust brake, when the vehicle throttle is closed to allow the rotational speed of the turbocharger to drop, thereby reducing wear to the sealing device.
