The invention relates to a crenellated resistor made from a carbonaceous material and having the shape of a hollow cylinder aimed at being used in furnaces working at high temperature. The resistor is characterized by the fact that the thickness of the cylinder walls follows a profile which is determined so as to produce an even temperature on the surface of the resistor when it is working: the wall radial thickness decreases in the transition section from the peripheral edge to the internal edge. The resistor according to this invention allows to eliminate any of the hot spots which may appear when an electric flow passes into it.
