The device has at least two essentially point-shaped light sources and at least two cascaded lenses that together form an illumination body matrix. Two adjacent lenses lie in a plane perpendicular to the main radiation direction, are illuminated two-dimensionally by one of the point sources and are parallel in at least one dimension. AN Independent claim is also included for a method of illuminating an object.
