<p>Scrap plastics material conveniently provided in granular form is fed to a machine comprising an elongate conveyor 8, over which radiant heating means is provided, partially to melt the granules on one side only, the opposite side of the granules remaining substantially un-melted. Downstream of the conveyor 8 is a compression moulding device 14 comprising a lower conveyor belt 16 and an upper conveyor belt 18, converging in the direction away from the conveyor 8. In the use of the machine in carrying out the method, scrap plastics granules are partially melted on the conveyor 8, and deposited on the lower conveyor 16, and conveyed through the compression moulding device 14, to form the scrap plastics material into sheet or slab form, having a thickness typically of between 2 and 15mm. A lining 30 may be provided to the sheet, such as in the form of sacking, webbing, or high quality plastic sheet.</p> |
