The invention relates to a banknote compartment for a till drawer or the like, which is defined by a bottom (12), side walls (14), a rear wall (16) and a front wall (18) and has a covering element (20) which extends from the rear wall (16) over a part of the length of the compartment which is measured between the rear wall (16) and the front wall (18). Said covering element comprises a holding-down clamp (26) for banknotes, near its free edge (22) which is at a distance from the rear wall (16). The clamp can be pivoted about an axis (24) which is parallel to the bottom (12) and the rear wall (16), between a pressure position, in which said clamp is pre-stressed downwards in the direction of the bottom (12), and a lifted release position. At least one intermediate bottom (28) dividing the banknote compartment into superposed partial compartments (36, 38) is arranged between the bottom (12) of the compartment and the covering element (20), parallel thereto and at a distance therefrom. Said intermediate bottom extends from the rear wall (16) over a part of the length of the compartment. |
