NOVEL DEHYDROGENASE AND GENE ENCODING THE SAME

It is intended to provide a novel dehydrogenase having different characteristics from publicly known dehydrogenases. Namely, a dehydrogenase having the following physicochemical characteristics is provided: (1) function: starting with pyruvic acid and an alkylamine or a dialkylamine, forming an N-alkyl-L-alanine with the use of NADPH and/or NADH as a coenzyme; (2) substrate specificity: showing its activity on an alkylamine or a dialkylamine but not on ammonia; (3) showing the optimum pH value at around 10 in the case of using phenylpyruvic acid and methylamine as the substrates; and (4) being stable at around pH 5 to 10.5 in the case of treating at 30°C for 30 minutes.
