An electrical rotating machine comprises an inverter drive system (18) wherein alternating current comprising more than three phases is produced from the inverter drive system (18). The machine further includes a stator (10) comprising a plurality of slots (32) and windings (12), wherein the windings (12) are electrically coupled to the inverter drive system (18) and a winding chording factor of the stator (10) is approximately 1. Further, a winding distribution factor of the stator (10) could also be approximately 1. A rotor in the machine is electromagnetically coupled to a rotating magnetic field generated by the windings (12) and the rotating magnetic field has a flux density level that exhibits saturation effects.
