Method in which a leak testing gas is supplied to the test item and sensors are used to test for escaping gas. Accordingly the test item is enclosed in a cover to form a test chamber. Within the cover the atmosphere is circulated while gas sensors check for the presence of any test gas. The gas sensors are directly connected to the cover.
