The lace (7) is permanently joined with one end to a holding element located at the lower end (8) of the front opening (5), guided in a zigzag line through loops or eyelets (10) positioned along both sides of the gap (5), and permanently joined to a holding element located at the upper end (9) of the front opening (5). When the boot is (1) put on, the laces (7) can be tensioned with a device (11) of a suitable construction positioned half way up the shaft (3) beside the front gap (5).
