BENZENE-UTILIZING RHODOCOCCUS AND PLASMID PREPARED THEREBY

Bacteria belonging to the genus Rhodococcus and being capable of utilizing benzene. These bacteria are also tolerant to benzene. Examples of these bacteria include Rhodococcus sp. B-4 strain (deposition no. FERM BP-8281), Rhodococcus opacus B-9 strain (deposition no. FERM BP-8282) and Rhodococcus opacus B-10 strain (deposition no. FERM BP-8283) each having the base sequence according to SEQ ID NO:1 or being represented by the restriction enzyme cleavage map shown in Fig. 3. A plasmid having the base sequence according to SEQ ID NO:2 or being represented by the restriction enzyme cleavage map shown in Fig. 4.
