PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR RECOVERY OF MAGNETIC PARTICLES IN A SLURRY PHASE REACTOR

A process and apparatus for recovering of magnetic particles in a slurry phase reactor. The magnetic particles slurried in a liquid are passed past magnetic rods, so that a substantial portion of the magnetic particles are attracted to the magnetic rods and slide down the rods. A clarified liquid and a magnetic catalyst particle concentrate are produced. The magnetic catalyst particle concentrate is returned to the slurry bed, and the clarified liquid is removed from an outlet. The process and apparatus may be used to convert hydrogen and carbon monoxide to hydrocarbons in a slurry Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The ratio of the magnetic catalyst particle concentrate to the clarified wax product can be controlled by controlling inlet and outlet flow rates.
