<p>It is intended to provide an instrument for separating plasma or serum and a method of collecting plasma or serum whereby plasma or serum can be efficiently separated even from a blood sample in a trace amount while being free from the leakage of blood cell components or hemolysis without resort to centrifugation and, in clinical sites with a need for demand-responsive and immediate performances such as urgent examinations or home examinations, plasma or serum can be quickly and easily separated and collected from a whole blood sample. An instrument for separating plasma or serum from whole blood which comprises a blood separation member, a supporting member for covering and supporting the blood separation member, a blood induction member formed in the supporting member which covers the basal end of the blood separation member, and a plasma or serum collection port opening in the supporting member covering the edge of the blood separation member. The whole blood is introduced into the blood separation member via the blood induction member. Then plasma or serum, which has been separated so as to put on the edge of the blood separation member, is collected from the plasma or serum collection port.</p> |
