<p>Disclosed is a method for compressing large square bales for stalk material, particularly hay and straw, on large-bale presses by means of strings which grip across the longitudinal sides and front sides of the large bales and are knotted together. The large bales are formed by a number of contiguous small bales that have been compressed and tied independently. In order to produce both large bales and small bales, two tying units are assigned to the baling channel of the large-bale press. One of said tying units is optionally used for tying individual small bales while both tying units are individually actuated for simultaneously and jointly tying several small bales into one large bale. Both tying units use the same knotting devices.</p> |
