The method involves coupling out an impact exerted by an object on an external part (6) of the vehicle (2) and feeding it to a signal processing unit (8) for time-frequency analysis. A sound signal is coupled out of the external part, which can be in the form of a sound signal in a solid material and/or a sound signal in air. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: an arrangement for person and collision protection in a vehicle.
