PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tether operated type air discharge for a front air bag system which adjusts the air discharging amount of an air bag to be correct for a case wherein an occupant comes closer to an air bag module, and a case wherein the occupant normally sits. SOLUTION: This front air bag system (10) for a vehicle (12) is equipped with an air bag module (20) having a housing attached to a vehicle structural section of the vehicle (12), and an air bag (22) which is operatively connected with the air bag module (20). The front air bag system (10) is also equipped with an inflator (64) which is arranged in the housing in order to expand the air bag (22) with expansion gas. The front air bag system (10) discharges the expansion gas into the air through the housing. Therefore, the front air bag system (10) is further equipped with at least one tether (54, 154 or 254) which connects the air bag (22) and either of the housing and the inflator (64) with each other.
