PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dicrotic notch detector which can detect the timing of the generation of dicrotic notches even when the dicrotic notches are not clearly recognizable in pulsation. SOLUTION: Locations in the generation of the dicrotic notches contained in the pulsation are determined by a location of generation decision means 66 based on the mean P<SB>av</SB>of waveforms calculated by a mean calculation means 64 and even when the dicrotic notches DN are not clearly recognizable in the pulsation, the timing of the generation of the dicrotic notches DN can be detected accurately. In other words, physiologically, this utilizes the fact that the terminal sytolic pressure can be approximated by the average blood pressure of the artery involved and the portion equivalent to the average blood pressure in the pulsation is defined as the timings of the generation of the dicrotic notches DN. Thus, even if the timings of the generation of dicrotic notches DN corresponding to the closure timing of the aortic valve may not be clearly recognized in the shape of the pulsation, the timings can be determined.
