<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain a detecting device for a person who has fallen from a platform, which is capable of detecting the fallen person over the whole length of the platform. <P>SOLUTION: A person 60 who has fallen from a platform 30 is detected by visual images captured by stereo cameras that take a picture of a predetermined area 40 to be detected, and then the distance to the fallen person is determined based on the interval between the cameras on the right and left sides and focal lengths thereof. Thereafter, the height of the fallen person is determined based on the distance obtained, and the number of occupying pixels thereof is found, and thereafter the size of the fallen person is further determined based on the height and the number of occupying pixels. If the obtained size is greater than or equal to a prescribed value, it is determined that a person has fallen, delivering the output of a signal of detecting the fallen person. If the obtained size is smaller than the prescribed value, it is determined that a small thin other than a person has fallen. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
