<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycrystal sintered compact of a Co-based compound oxide which has excellent thermoelectric transducing performance. <P>SOLUTION: The fine powder of a compound oxide expressed by the general formula of Ca<SB>2.2-3.6</SB>Na<SB>0-0.8</SB>Bi<SB>0-0.8</SB>Co<SB>4</SB>O<SB>8.8-9.2</SB>and planar crystals are mixed, and the direction of the crystal faces of the planar crystals is uniformized.
