PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a method for discriminating spurious drugs having poor or little drug effect and quantitatively evaluating the effect in the commercialization of a health tea or tea extract of a plant of the genus Salasia having antidiabetic effect and antiobesity effect. SOLUTION: A plant of the genus Salasia (Salasia reticulata, Salasia oblonga and Salacia prinoides of the family Celastraceae) is extracted and theα- glucosidase inhibiting activity of the extract is evaluated by an IC<SB>50</SB>value determined by a specific method.
