<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method of producing fine zirconia powder. <P>SOLUTION: In the method of producing zirconia powder, a zirconium salt is fired in a hydrogen chloride-containing atmosphere. In the same method, the zirconium salt consists of zirconium oxychloride.
