PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high strength and lightweight concrete which is lightweight (mass per unit volume is 1.6 to 1.9 ton/m<SP>3</SP>), exhibits a compressive strength of≥40 N/mm<SP>2</SP>and has a small self-contraction. SOLUTION: The high strength and lightweight concrete contains lightweight coarse aggregate having a specific gravity in oven-dried condition of 0.8 to 1.3, a water-absorbing rate of≤5 wt.% and a crushing strength of≥800 N and an expansive additive, and exhibits a compressive strength of≥40 N/mm<SP>2</SP>. The preferable blending composition of the high strength and lightweight concrete is such that the unit amount of cement is 400 to 600 kg/m<SP>3</SP>, the amount of the expansive additive is 10 to 40 kg/m<SP>3</SP>, the ratio of water to cement is 25 to 40 wt.%, the amount of fine aggregate is 600 to 900 kg/m<SP>3</SP>, the amount of the lightweight coarse aggregate is 0.3 to 0.4 m<SP>3</SP>/m<SP>3</SP>and the ratio of a water reducing agent to the cement is 0.1 to 2.0 wt.% in terms of solid content.
