PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of image quality due to difference of print characteristics in the going stroke and the returning stroke at the time of performing bidirectional printing. SOLUTION: In the printer having an ejection head for forming dots on a printing body by ejecting ink drops of a plurality of sizes selectively and printing a pattern for correcting the shift of dot forming position in the going stroke and the returning stroke of main scanning onto the printing body, the interval in the subscanning direction of dots constituting a correction pattern printed by ejecting ink drops of some size from the ejection head is different from the interval in the subscanning direction of dots constituting a correction pattern printed by ejecting ink drops of a different size from the ejection head.
