PURPOSE: A method for transmitting and receiving paging indicator bits through a quick paging channel slot is provided to increase the number of mobile terminals managed in one base station by increasing the number of the mobile terminals according to the position of the paging indicator bits, using 3 or more paging indicator bits transmitted through a quick paging channel. CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal receives a paging indicator bit of a quick paging channel in a primarily assigned bit position, for receiving a slot of a paging channel(420). The mobile terminal confirms whether the paging indicator bit is '0' in the primarily assigned bit position(430). If the paging indicator bit is '0' in the primarily assigned bit position, the mobile terminal receives a paging indicator bit of a secondarily assigned bit position(440). The mobile terminal confirms whether the paging indicator bit of the secondarily assigned bit position is '0'(450). If the paging indicator bit of the secondarily assigned bit position is '0', the mobile terminal receives a paging indicator bit in the nth bit position(460). The mobile terminal confirms whether the nth paging indicator bit is '0'(470). If a paging indicator bit is '1' in an assigned bit position, the mobile terminal wakes up(480) and receives a paging message of an assigned paging channel slot(490).
